Getting Started - The Basics

Getting Started

The following is a brief guide on what you need to know to get yourself or your organization online.

Domain: A domain is your presence on the Internet. Domains are created by registering a specific name which matches the name of your organization or relates to what your (e.g.: yourcompanyname.com or yourhobbyname.com).

Web Hosting: Web hosting is a service that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or web page onto the Internet. A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed in the Internet. Websites are hosted, or stored, on special computers called servers. When Internet users want to view your website, all they need to do is type your website address or domain into their browser. Their computer will then connect to your server and your webpages will be delivered to them through the browser. Additional information on TrustedWebPros packages can be found here.

E-Mail: E-mail, or electronic mail, is the digital "cousin" of the traditional postal service whereby messages are sent using a computer or mobile device, such as a cell phone or tablet.

Website: A website is, essentially, an electronic billboard designed to promote an organization or an idea. Today's websites are considerably more sophisticated than this, containing product catalogs; bulletin boards; streaming video, shopping cart (e-commerce), and a range of other features.
